I need your help!! I have an 8N#245054. Very little compression in #3 cylinder. I have pulled motor to rebuild . Crankshaft's serviceable. Have located all necessary parts except rings. The pistons are 60 over, and I cannot locate any rings for them. The suppliers around here are showing up to 40 over only. Please help me locate a set of 60's. The compression rings are smaller than the oil rings. They are 4 ring pistons.

I agree with the other posts. If you re-sleeve etc. don't forget to chech/renew the rod bushings.

Contact a local engine shop(not neessarily a tractor place)and see if they can order the rings. You really need to mic' the bore for taper and out-of-round before you do anything else. Let a machine shop advise you. If the sleeves are too badly worn, you might as well re-sleeve and install the correct size pistons. Many folks believe that 3-ring pistons do better than a 4-ring.

You might want to just go and buy a sleeve kit, I rebuild my 8n awhile back and one of the things I bought was a sleeve kit from C.T., when researching parts I could'nt believe how cheap the sleeve kit was for what you were getting, sleeves, pistons, rings, wrist pins and clips, I don't remember the cost but the price was right, ya, it will be more than just rings but, your whole combustion chamber will now be "All" new !!, something to think about.
