My 9N brake arms are badly pitted. I have heard about JB Weld...and I'm not exactly sure what it is. Here's my need and question: How can I fill those badly eroded pits on those arms...can I use JB Weld...is it a speadable substance? does it cure, then I grind, smooth and sand? Or is there some other very good quality Epoxy Putty that can take weather extremes, waterproof, and can be used to fill those arms? One fella said I could use lead, or brass and the like...but that seems like a lot more money and trouble. Thanks in advance for your bodywork suggestions. 9N'er

JB Weld is an interesting product. The fan shroud broke on my Cadillac and yes, I fixed it with JB Weld even though the Cadillac is only three years old.

JB Weld is an epoxy putty, one of many such products you may find on sale. The other real popular brand is Devcon.

All of these products are pretty close to miraculous - they stick to many things with a vise-like grip, and can take a lot of abuse. JB Weld, is, for example, regularly used to repair non-structural cracks in engine blocks. I've fixed a 12" crack in a Mercury outdrive cooling "log" with JB Weld, still holding 10 years later.

That being said, these products are not suitable for structural repair. I don't know exactly what the "brake arms" are that you refer to. If these are pits in the brake levers, and you want to do a good cosmetic repair, JB Weld would do a good job. If you're talking about the internal levers that work the brakes, I'd be inclined to weld them.

JB Weld is sometimes called duct tape in a tube. It is a two part epoxy based putty that sticks to just about anything. I can be drilled, shaped, sanded, smoothed...you name it.

There are other products by Devcon and others that are similar, but JB Weld seems to be the favorite. given specific applications it works well. I have used it to fill cracks in blocks, smooth axle shafts that were pitted for a seal to ride on and rebuilt a water pump housing on a dirt bike motorcycle.

It has a lot of uses, but it has its limitations. It is available at most hardwares and farm stores.
