9N Under Heavy Load

While just 1/2 hr or so into bush-hoggin' some thick St. Augustine, my 9N RPM drug way down in the heavy spots. I kept the throttle at about 3/4 in 1st gear and the tractor usually powered through the heavy load. I decided to quit when I dropped the oil pressure down to 0 and got smoke from the oil filler cap. I've thought about changing the oil, OPRV, thermostat, but I don't know if maybe the problem is with the governor or fuel system. Obviously, I'm burning fresh oil in the crankcase (no smoke out the tail pipe) and getting some high temps at heavy load. What should I do to correct?

Many thanks from me and my overgrown backyard.

DOn't know... sounds like you are over heating. Is the coolant up to snuff? Have you opened the radiator cap (slowly) and checked for a visible water pump flow?

DId the oil pressure drop slowly, or suddenly?

Oil pressure dropped when RPM dropped. I guess it makes sense that if the motor's goin' slow, then so is the oil pump (low press) and water pump (high heat). Maybe that 5' Bush-hog shredder and 12" St. Augustine grass are just too much for a 59 yr old tractor. Sharper blades might help.
