should i leave the lift up when parking my 52 8N overnight or longer, and block it up as i have been doing,or should i let it down? (i normally keep a 6 foot scrape blade on it). which is better for the hydrolic system? currently the hydrolics are fine and i want to keep it that way.

thanks in advance. as a recent 8N purchaser, i also have found this discussion board very helpful.

I lower mine and use it as a parking brake.

lower the lift. The last thing you want to hear is someone was hurt because an implement was lowered on them.

Over the years there have been several accidents concerning implements falling on children I reccomend letting lifts and blades down when not in use

Have to agree with John that it seems better to leave the lift arms down, at least on mine.

In the video from the N Newsletter entitled "8N-THUSIASM" the first thing the new owner does after letting his nephew take a test ride is go over and let down the implement (plow).

BTW the 4th cut on this video features "three 8N's, equipped with rear scoops and a subsoiler demonstrating how to build a farm pond. Though this one is a b&w silent film with titles explaining the action, it is quite informative". (I agree)

Do what ever is convenient to you. It makes no difference how you leave the lift. Up or down. It has not effect on the hydrauic system except that if left up it will go back to the point where it was left when the engine is started and raise the lift the that point.
I broke a friends big toe who was standing on the lift arms of out 48 8N when the engine was started and the lift came up and got his toe between the lift arm and the axle. You ever see a big toe that was 3" wide???

Don't try this at home!!!

Leave the lift down. That keeps the pressure off the seals. Now I've never seen any studies that show it really increases the life of the hydraulic system, but it makes sense that it would.

Oh, that I had that choice! My lift lets itself down after an hour or so no matter what I want it to do!
