This will be second nature for the veteran brush-hoggers, so for the newcommers, After mowing ALWAYS disrobe and check for ticks. This time of year a mower can make ticks airborne, landing on virtually any part of the body. I have my wife inspect the places I can't see ( She's not too wild about this part, I'm no Tom Cruise). A little caution never hurts.

Best Regards !!!!! !

The local (No. Cal. foothill) paper just had an article about Black-legged and Western Black-Legged ticks that can be carriers of Lyme disease, if left on a person 3-4 days. Apparently, if caught early, Lyme disease is highly curable; otherwise, it can be debilitating. Women can even pass it on to their newborns. Supposedly, you're not supposed to squeeze the tick, put mineral oil on it, or burn it..tick "juice" just gets injected into the skin and can create a greater chance of getting Lyme disease. I defer to you tick extracting experts out there, but the article says to get close to the tick head and pull. On my dogs, I use a tick puller.

...rather, broast them in a sauce pan and serve with chilled Californian veggies. Raspberry Sherbert makes a nice cool chaser.

Hey Dave, what's the name of those ticks they found on the moon diggin' for rocks back during the Apollo days? I think they were called----- "luna-ticks".

...weeeee ellll, I try to contain my humor to stay gainfully employed, but once in a while I have to cut loose.

By the way, I lived in Salem, MO (ok, 8 miles from town) for a few years in high school. Really enjoyed that time, jiggers and ticks and all! Nice country.

Here's a home remedy: Fingernail polish (any color but preferably clear), will kill a chigger in 1 to 2 days. Seals off the area and smothers them. A tick bite seems like it takes a month to heal.

Best Regards !!!!!

Get you some of those good ole Texas fire ants. They help control Ticks and Chiggers. Don't know if it's a fair trade though.

Ah HA! So that's why I never see any ticks or chiggers around my place (coastal TX). Hopefully someday our fat little fire ants will start eatin' themselves, too. Watch out bush-hoggin' over those mounds!

Personally, I would buy up as much liquid Dursban as I could before it leaves the shelves. Those short-sighted people at the EPA obviously don't have ticks, chiggers, ants, and CHINCH BUGS to worry about. Dursban is going to bring a hefty price on the black market, I'm sure.

1. Spray with bug repellent before you bushog
2. Wear a dog flea color on your ankle or belt
3. Rub your belt line and other common areas with a sheet of bounce and stick the sheet in you pocket

I bet Tom Cruise has has places Rosie Odonald wouldnt even want to look.

I wouldn't put a flea collar on my dog, much less me. So folks that have done that btw, have ended up in the hospital so uayor. Just pluck the buggers off. It's not a big deal.

There ain't enough Guineas in the world to eat all the ticks in South MO. They do a good job around the house though.
