I did a complete tune up Pionts , Plugs , Plug Wires ,Roter , Condensor , Distributor Cap . Its getting fuel . I don't no what eles to look at . It has been converted to a 12 volt system . But the wiring loks ok . Any idea's or pointers would be appriciated

April; You have gotten alot of good advice about your starting problem. I would like to add that the old 9N`s have a tricky ignition switch,(where you put the key)I would jump around that and see if that will help.If that is the problem just replace it. Not a big deal to a lady who can tune up a 9n. Good luck and be safe. homeboy

If it is the coil they do make a 12 volt coil now for the 9n now.

I tried everything you mentioned one time with no results. I broke down and replaced the coil. Then it fired right up good as new. 6V coils are about $40 at New Holland, $27 at TSC.

I burned up my coil by leaving the key in the ignition overnight, turned on. This keeps current flow through the coil (unless you're lucky enough to stop the tractor with the points open) and will run down the battery for sure.

Good luck.

Hi April,
It sounds like you should have a runner. One question though. Did you replace all of the tune up parts before your hubby so kindly pulled someone out of a ditch, or after your tractor refused to start.

That changes things a little. How was the coil voltage adressed in the change and can I assume you have a nice fat blue spark? This is my 2nd attempt to re-respond. If the first one appears out of thin air please don't think I'm schizoid.
