Walked into a barn this morning, the fella I was visiting, opened up his door, and there sitting were 7 fully restored Fordson's, one in the works of being rebuilt, and an 8N stripped down to the block for restoration. But the story get's better: He has a 9N. Serial number 1430. It had an aluminum dash, double ribbed fenders and other interesting original parts. Now get this, he learned about it from his son in southern NH who was getting his haircut. A long time ago the old man of the barber passed it on to his son the barber. The barber cut's hair and didn't need a tractor to do that work, so he put it out on the side of the road with a "For Sale" sign on it. He thought it was a 2N. He wanted 1900 for it. Well, the son (guy getting the haircut) called his Dad (the guy I was visiting), not knowing it was a low serial number aluminum 9N..and thinking it was a 2N, and said, come down and take a look at it. He drove down, investigated, saw the 2 ribbed fenders...knew it must be a 9N, scratched away the debris from the serial number, then looked at the dash...and said to the guy, well the hood needs some work...I'll give 1200. He took it and just brought it home. It is in very good condition. That's about as close to heaven in tractor collecting as I will ever see. lucky him. Moral of the story: keep you hair cut short, talk old tractors, and keep a poker face.
