I aquired an 8N with a hole in block just behind the oil dipstick--Got tractor for just hauling it away--I may be able to have it welded and rebuild engine, but would rather get good block--Any advice on where to find block? If I can't rebuild I guess I'll just salvage it. Any advice appreciated.

If the hole is not too large, the block can be repaired by a competent block repair shop. There is a 48 at our local NH dealer that had a softball-sized hole punched out by a thrown rod, and they fixed it. Cosmetically, the casting will probably be smooth where the weld is ground down, instead of having rough sand-texture. I wouldn't scrap it. There are plenty of blocks around, costing up to $1200. Lately, I've run across several scrap N's from $200-600 with good blocks. Look around.

If the tractor is in fair shape other than the block, and your going to do a compleat overhall. I would look into a rebuilt short block, C-T FARM
