I have a fifty 8N and I can't get it to start. I checked the spark plugs and I get a good spark on all the plugs. It is cranking but it is not starting. I have a sight spot where I could check to see if the ring is spinning. When I check it the starter is cranking and ring is spinning but it is not starting. Sometimes she will crank and just spin. Even though I could see the ring spinning could there still be something with the starter or the bendix drive? I have the ford manual FO-4 but I can't find any information of how to check it. I took the starter out but I don't know how to find out how to test it any information would be helpful. thank you. pj

pj,

If you have fire at the plugs, one has to assume there ain't no fuel. If you crank it for several seconds with the choke on, then pull a plug, is it wet with fuel?

After half a century, a fuel tank can have some crud floating around. If no fuel on the plug, you'd have to look to see if you're getting good flow to the carb, then check why it stops there.

Is the fan turning when you crank the engine over? If not, you could be spinning the ring gear on the flywheel. This is a common problem. Not easy to fix without splitting the tractor...
