I have 1949 8n. My problem is that my battery is not charging on the tractor. I can take it out and charge it on the charger just fine. I hooked an amp meter up and the needle stayed on zero. I checked the output of the generator and it was 7 volts. I might add that it will run with the battery unhooked. Does that mean the generator is working or is my tractor posessed. Any help would be greatly appreciated,or as we say down here precitate th haaalp.

How long since you cleaned the battery cable terminals and battery posts??? Could be the solution. FWIW

Since you have determined the the generator is putting out voltage then try this...With every thing hooked up normal and the ignition turned off, measure the battery voltage. With the engine running at speed again measure the battery voltage. A small fractional voltage increase should be seen. If not then suspect the wiring, the regulator or the cutout. A word of caution: Prolonged operation of the generator without the battery connected may prove injurious to the well being of the generator... take care ..geo
