Zane a little advise Please!
I pulled the inspection plate on the side of my 9 and watched in awe as the pto shaft spun, the lift lever moved some mysterous thing(s) down in the oil, and the lift stayed right still. Once and a while the lift arms would wiggle when the actuator was moved but otherwise noda nothing noway nohow. Now my question the oil foamed (kinda like mammas egg whites when beaten) after a short while of inspection. I take it the pressure vale must be stuck wide open? I saw no leaks from the top (of course I don't have a manual so I am going in blind). Someone has taken a PIPE wrench to the drain plugs so the transmission one was all I could get out to drain oil, and it did not clear things up much. ALSO, the bottom cover has an obvious welded patch (did I get stung on this thing or not) Do you see that much? Like a rod went flying through once (but I could swear someone told me rods is up front). Any insite would be appreciated. Is there a site with internal veiws of the tractor? Thanks for all your great input to the board.

I hope that the pump has not been broken into the pressure chamber. If it has it may be hard or impossible to fix without a new pump housing. I would first try replacing the pressure relief valve. It is just under the PTO shaft and screwed into the pump horizontally at the back of the pump. It takes an 11/16" box end wrench to take it out. It is sometimes necessary to bend the wrench or cut it off just enough to let you turn it a sixth of a turn so you can get the valve out. The valve is pipe threaded. (Tapered)

If replacing the relief valve doesn't fix it you should pull the pto out and then the pump out the bottom of the housing. First be sure to spread the two control rods that come down from the top to the control valve cross or you will break it off when the pump comes out. Inspect the pump good around and inside the hole where the relief valve goes for any kind of a crack on the inside of the pressure chamber. If it is cracked then you are going to have to go on a scavenger hunt for another one or a new housing and as of now I don't know where one can be had.

Be sure the control rods are securely connected to the control rod cross. Sometimes they can come loose. That would be great to find as all it would take would be to reassemble them to the cross.

The worst has come to pass! At some time the pump did shatter and blow through the bottom of the cover. A good old south Mo. boy and I took her down yesterday and found many bad things. There was water (a lot) in the hyd. fluid. The pump was very questionable, and the ram cyclinder was as rough as an old gravel road. The front transmission seal was leaking, both hub seals were leaking, and the brakes were shot. However, the rear bearings were good! so she is in pieces now waiting for the UPS man to bring the rebuilt pump ($250) and the rebuilt ram cyclinder / piston assembly ($75) Ah but she'll be sweet when we get her back together! Thanks for the input! As soon as my piggy bank recovers from this trama, I will be ordering a "Zane Thang" This old puppys gonna have to earn its keep now! Thanks!!!
