I have never been able to tell if my govneror kicks in or not. I don't think so. I have a 1942 2N Ford. I have been through 2 governors in 2 months. They just seem to blow up! I have set the linkage and adjusted the carborator according to I&T shop manual. Any ideas before i put on yet another?

What do you mean they "blow up?" Is the oil supply line feeding oil to the unit? There's nothing in there to blow up. There are 4 flyballs and a race and a keeper for the flyballs, some thrust washers and bearings. Does the unit fall to pieces or what? On the 9/2N you bend the linkage to adjust. One way to tell if the governor is kicking in is to put the tractor in 2nd gear, about 1/3 throttle and start up an incline. The throttle should open up automatically. If it doesn't, then inspect the governor, the governor spring and the insides of the governor. I don't understand how two governors could both "blow up." Were they new, used, or what? Unless the whole governor is totally worn out, you should be able to rebuild/repair the unit without buying a new one.
