OK I've checked the archives on this and I still need some help. Both front wheels shimmy right and left loosely, more noticeable at high speed. Both radius arms are straight as an arrow and tight as they can be. Sector arms, tie-rods, spindles all move together with the wheels. The only thing I can visibly see wrong is the dust covers are torn and falling off the back linkages. The loose steering doesn't bother me all that much, but I'm worried I could tear something up running the tractor this way.

I'm looking for a quick and easy fix that can last at least till winter. Are two king pin bushings and a six pack enough to do the job?

Thanks for all your help.

Old ag, I recently made repairs to my 42 9n. The pinion and bushings were bad. after replacing, I ran it on the road to check the steering out. It would wobble left and right at high speed more than at low. The towing was out. I had to turn the ball joints until it was in like it should be.I guess you know how to take joints loose. If you get someone to help, you can take a tape measure and check front alinement. get wheels straight and measure between tires at the front edge then to the back edge. This is a little crude, but it will tell you if the alinement is out. I'll check a book I have and get back if it helps good luck.
