Mr. 'er,

Or may I call you 9? Thought I might lighten things up a bit. Everyone is giving very sound advice. If the voltages check at the coil like Claus recommends, my next step would be to maybe look at the new wiring harness. Like the other replies stated " It worked before, look for what has changed".

Best Regards!!!!! !!!!! !!!

thanks for the comment. I'm glad you value the interchange. In part, it's deliberate to do that "for the record" and interest, but the other part is born of necessity. I kind-of-sort-of took this thing on without local assistance...so I'm going at it physically alone, but 98% through this forum and having good talks over the phone with some others. Amazing, that a guy can rip a tractor apart, repair it, rebuild it (at least the basics but not ripping into the motor or hydraulic internals), and re-assemble it through the internet. Posting as much as I have didn't go without some risk so your words are very much appreciated. thank you. looking forward to watching your project as it develops! -9N'er

I misread your post somewhat... I don't know exactly what I am looking at on the multi-meter but I will do what Claus sugggests today and spend a few more minutes. It has to be a power in- or power out problem; or wrong connection, or short. I tested my Delco alternator and it was rebuilt this week. It was corroded inside and it was not charging. That's a significant step forward. I did put new points and a condensor in yesterday and set the correct gap and timing. It was a cheap investment of 20.00 to do that. And the inside of the distributor was wicked dirty and the old points the same. I straightened the pigtail on the coil and stretched it a tad to ensure a good connection. I straightend the twisted and loose bail that holds the coil to the distributor. It's n improved and snug fit now...now more jiggling coil! I replaced the gaskets and installed the round circular gasket inside the distributor too. I used a small amount of dialectric grease between the coil and distributo/cap gasket too. I cleaned the connections, and ensured that the internal copper points spring was not bent or touching or out of alignment. The distributor should be ok...as it was prior thanks to Claus's post. New cap. New rotor. New plugs (set gap). New plug wires. Now it's a check on the current. I purchased a new ceramic resistor. I also replaced the old wire lead from the resistor to the coil last night too. Today, I'll trace current flow...but to be honest...this is my last attempt. This Tuesday a mechanic is scheduled for an on-site visit. I don't have a problem with that...it's the most logical next step...have someone who has knowledge take a direct look at it (probably one of my limiting factors is not knowing anyone close by that can come over for a beer and help me out). But he won't have to mess with timing the dist, gap, points etc. I wanted to ensure that was up to snuff and not pay him for his time to do what I can do. I'll post next when I determine the cause and when it starts. -9N'er p.s. thanks for asking. pps: as I mentioned to DonB yesterday, I'm not losing sleep over this in the least (although I went to bed Tuesday night discouraged), it's still a fun project...just perplexing at times.
