Pulled coil form distributor. Turned ignition on. Set meter at 10 AC. Placed meter lead on top of coil: reads: about 9.2

Then placed same lead on bottom of coil (pigtail) reads the same value.

Placed other lead on ground. Any clues what to do next? Will monitor til i get a reply then run back outside. -9N'er

Your test shows that the primary coil winding has continuity (it's ok).(Meter should be on a DC not AC setting)
Now try this... Put everything back into place...Clip one lead of the voltmeter to the top coil post the other lead to ground... Make sure that the leads are clear of the fan and belt...Turn on the key...You should read some voltage...Now turn over the engine with the starter...The voltage should go up and down as the points open and close...Let us know what readings you get...geo

9N'er..... .your test tell me your coil primary has continuity. But what do you get when it is mounted on the engine? Does it change any at all? Inquiring minds want to know..... ..Dell
