The story is that this tractor was pulling a 1000-bushel gravity wagon (that's around 30 tons of deadweight) when it found a sinkhole caused by an abandoned oil well. That's how come there are vehicles parked that close - the whole field was not like this, it was just the one spot.

Apparently they tried pulling before they tried digging, and managed to break the tractor in half. A new MX270 with full duals, by the way, is right around $130,000.

According to Dieselglen, it was repaired!

At $130k, I bet they repaired it!

I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to rip it in half. Those are large tires on back (lots of radius). I'd have expected the tractor to roll up and out. Makes me wonder if there's a piece of information being left out...like was the wagon left attached when they tried to yank it?

Here's what I drive for a live'n, and I don't think it would of helped!

I'm thinking the good old shock/impact debate might have something to do with this tractor breaking, I wonder if they had a big a$$ tractor with a big s$$ chain and someone said "Hey let's get a running head start" I once saw a JD green'e get ripped in half because they were trying to free the brakes up by pulling it with a C-20 pick up and the guy did just that, backed up,nailed the gas, and bang!,ripped the front axle, gear box, radiator and some other goodies off, quite the site! (-:

later,dave

They said it took two tractors pulling at the same time to get it out. I wonder if they hooked one to the front and one to the back?!?!?!
