Hi group, I'm looking at a tractor for sale, a Ford 8N. It looks to be in good shape but the owner is unsure of the year, etc. So how to tell what year? Also wondering what to look for as 'classic' problems, etc. to give me an idea as to it's condition or any hidden problems. any help appreciated. Please respond to psg4u@bellsouth.net
thanks,
Randy

Once you find the ser # on starter side. Its near top of head, mid engine, on a flat spot. If its very dirty, you may need to clean with brush and cleaner to get to #'s Then go to the sites listed buy the previous re: They have year and ser# lists. As for price. There going for 2500 tp 3200 around VA. anything less than that tends to be a good value as long as there is not a lot wrong. Check steering, Smoke from oil tube, hydraulics, too many things to list. You should however, run it for some time. There are problems that only show up when hot under a load. Check archives on this forum for ?'s about running bad and so on. Best wishes, Have fun, be safe.
