Way back in the winter I took the Vickers vane pump from the Jubilee into a hydrualic shop here in Des Moines. "Yeah we can do it," they told me.
They farmed it out to another shop. "Yeah we work on pumps all the time" said the second shop. They did consult with a Vicker's rep and got some but not all of the needed parts because all are no longer available. They "lapped" or machined other part or parts. Cost $300. The rest of the tractor has been almost completely overhauled from radiator to the pto shaft seal, including the Sherman overdrive. The 3-point hydraulic system was also equipped with new 0-rings and gaskets and a new safety valve. The pump is still marginal. it takes it 3-5 minutes before it begins to work if it has sat overnight. Then it pumps too much, almost overpowering the system (this is not unusual, it has slightly oversize vanes). Moral of the story: I would replace with a small piston pump if I were to do it over again, and, in fact, may do that in the next year. Mike-Iowa P.S. The overhaul of engine, clutch, Sherman transmission, brakes, spindles by G & L of Indianola, Iowa 515-961-8653 is above and beyond my expectations. This baby is near perfect in the drive train. Starts instantly, idles perfectly an

I've been fearing a meltdown of my vane pump ever since I realized that's what I had on my 850. So far everything works fine. I found a piston pump laying on the ground out behind the NH dealership with the correct manifold still attached and talked them out of it (bought a pair of Tract-o-lites for $50 and got them to throw the pump in). No one knows if it works (probably not). But I figured at least I'd have a rebuildable core when the vane pump cashes in. Your post reaffirms that I made a good decision.

I have a Vickers vane pump on my Davis loader on a Ford 2000 tractor. I changed oil in it and have had nothing but trouble ever since. I took the vane pump apart and replaced the shaft and bearing and seal. Thought I had the wrong oil so I got some from a case dealer, MS 1210 TCH. Now it makes a lot of noise and will not pick up the bucket, looks like the oil gets foamy. Do I have a pump problem or air. Went to the shop I got the shaft from and they said if I got one vane back in wrong that could be a problem. Took it back apart and sure enough one vane was in with the back side against the pumping surface. Still no help. HELP!!!

I rebuilt my vickers vane pump with a kit from walts tractor parts here and its been doing just fine for about a year now.Pretty easy rebuild you should try that route. My kit came with everything, even the vane housing.
