8n runs for about 5 seconds

I have a problem getting my 8n started that has completely stumped me. The tractor was re-built two months ago and was running very good until this weekend. The last time that I used it was last Monday for about one hour under normal load. I had no problems at all. This weekend I started it and it ran for about 30 seconds and died. I tried starting it over and over and only thing I could get out of it was about 5 seconds. My first thought was the gas flow. So I test the flow from the new gas tank to the rebuild carburetor. Every thing looked good. At that time I removed the carburetor and cleaned it. That did not help. I then replaced the carburetor with a spar. It would only run for about 5 seconds. I did check the manifold and carburetor gaskets for leaks as well as spark to the plugs. I just can’t get it to run. Thanks for any help.

Did you make sure the carb is getting air?

I don't think you have a fuel or carb problem - I think it may be electrical. Check all your connections, and test your voltage reg, condenser, and coil. I would also inspect the rotor and distributor cap.

1. Try by-passing the keyswitch
2. Check all wiring connections-making sure they are clean and tight
3. If that doesn't help, and you're sure you have gas flow, check the points, condensor and coil.
