I have replaced the dist. cap and the points, condensor, rotor (mainly because I wanted to do it while I had the dist. off). I have full battery voltage at the coil primary and get decent spark across points when shorted. Plug wires are new, as well as plugs. Still, no fire at plugs. HELP!

If you are indeed, opening and closing the points instead of shorting across them, you should see minimal spark if the capacitor (inside the dist next to the points) is doing its job. If the cap is bad, it will burn points in short order. Revert to the old capacitor (condensor), clean the surface of the points with a clean business card and try again. The capacitor HAS to be securely mounted to the dist plate, and the free end lead isolated from ground.

You say in your post that you "have full battery voltage at the coil primary and get decent spark across points when shorted.". You should get full batt votage at the coil primary when the points are open but what voltage do you get when the points are closed? If you are getting spark across the points when you short them you have an intermittent short and the capacitor isn't doing it's job. When you short out the points a plug laying on the head or other grounded metal should have a good spark across it's gap or the high voltage lead from the coil should jump about an 1/16 inch gap to the head(or any ground point). Clip the insulated part of the high voltage lead to something with a clothes pin so that the end of the hv coil lead is approx 1/16 " from a ground point and then short out the points. You should get a good strong spark from the hv lead to ground when the points are opened. If this all checks out try spraying some WD 40 or starting fluid(ether) in the carb intake and see if it will start and then quit right away. If so you have a fuel problem rather than an ignition problem. HTH

I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my 52 model ford 8n. I've put in new points, condenser, coil, distributor cap, plug wires, rotor, and spark plugs. I've even put fresh premium gas in. Still no spark at the spark plugs. I'm going to check condenser lead to make sure it isn't getting grounded somehow. I would like to double check firing order - does anyone know the right firing order for this tractor?
