Carb bowl in sad shape, options?

I am trying to decide what to do with the bottom of my carb.

The main drain (big one) plug is all munged up. Looks like the previous owner may have alternated between using a hammer and vise-grips to seat the plug. I MAY be able to get that out and put a good one in, assuming the threads aren't as bad as the plug head.

The small strainer hole is another story. The strainer is long since gone, and it just has a hole it in. From the carb diagrams, this looks like the plug on the bottom should come out. I see NO way of getting mine out other than drilling it out. It's seated well below the surface of the cast iron. It also looks like a hammer may been used on it at one time.

I see my options as:

- live with these problems. No great harm being done. (right?) Plug strainer hole with something?
- buy a rebuilt carb complete for $120
- spend many hours driving and finding a salvaged part.

It would help better if I knew what the strainer drain was supposed to look like. Is it supposed to be removed with a wrench? Or a hex wrench?

Well, that answers my question. It's just an open hole. So I guess I will need a new carb.
