I've just recently discovered this site and have been running back and forth to compare things on my 2N. I bought it this spring for mowing and snow removal. It looks and runs beautiful. Needless to say I've been bitten by the bug, trying to buy parts to restore it. This morning my heart sank when I discovered the serial# on the motor says 9N and the # casted in the rear says 2N. Should they match? Thanks, odessa.

All 9N & 2N block serial numbers start with '9N'.
Take a look at the link below with the serial number in hand, and you will be able to determine the year of your tractor, or the engine at least...:)

Keep your spirits up! Unless you want a tractor that is completely original, don't worry. If it looks and runs great, be happy. My tractor has parts that have been borrowed from other "N" models, and gets a lot of compliments for its sharp and maintained appearance. If I ever come across a tractor that is 100% factory original, I'd be afraid to ever use it for anything other than show.
