Loader cylinder leaks

the dump cylinder on my loader drips steady around the large packing (?) nut. The coffee can I hung under it catches everything, but I get to watching it swing around...couple of close calls there. Thought I might be able to just tighten the nut up, like a water valve, but couldn't budge it with a 4-foot bar. If I heat it to turn the nut, what are the odds of A) succeeding 2) making it worse C) toasting the cylinder. Any thoughts? Or is it a different type of seal?
(someone suggested soaking in beer a couple hours, it helped a lot but the nut still won't turn)

Sounds to me that you will need to replace the seal. I believe these seals are a packing material and with the nut being down tight, probably has compressed the material to its fullest. I don't think I would use any heat, as I think you have run out of thread adjustment and you might also start a fire. Be safe and not sorry. Good luck.

If you can't turn the nut the packing is fully compressed. Remove the nut pull out the packing so they can be matched for size and amount, some large cylinders have 5 or 6 rings of packing. After you install the new packing tighten the nut until there is no leaks. Not to tight or the cylinder won't operate. Good luck. John
