Thanks for the fix! Esp/ Siinc

Tractor was stopping, esp. on rough ground and on hot days. Local advice was vapor lock, bad coil, or ignition switch.

Replaced ignition switch, coil, and condensor with no results. Found some rust in the glass bowl on the gas shut off. Apparently rust particle would block main jet when tractor was operated on rough ground.

Thanks for the advice. I think Siinc was right. Sandblasted the inside of the carb and put an in line filter on the gas line. tractor has run for over four hours. (:>)

Whooops too early on the celebration. Mowed for 3+ hours then about 1 hour today. Just as my daugher was finishing the pasture the damn thing quit again.

I'll try another coil and then replace all the wires. running out of options. Replaced the igniton switch, the coil, condensor and points, added an in- line filter, sandblasted and cleaned the carb float chamber.

Gads and this is a simple machine.

ray, my 8N does the same thing. sometimes it will run for hours and then just stop. usually there is rust or junk? in the sediment bowl. i'll wait for the engine to cool a little, take the bowl off, clean it , put it back on, and crank'er up and go. i've tried a METAL fuel filter but i dont get enough fuel flow to my carb with it on. my fuel cut-off is original,...maybe the newer ones have larger openings? ...i'll probably try one after i run this tankfull out. i have also run into some bad gasoline from the pump.

Took a long time to trouble shoot. Seemed to be more of an electrical problem as it quit suddenly. Guess the plugged jet does the same thing. The installed in line filter doesn't seem restrict fuel flow. I saw other reports that it might. Mowing with a brush hog in heavy going - lots of power/fuel.

Neighbors 9N does the same thing. Think I know where to look first now.

Ray,
There have been a couple of posts regarding people using plastic in-line gas filters, then positioning them too close to the manifold. That can be more than an "Aw, phooey!"
Consensus seems to be that the three screens are sufficient filtration.

Mounted the filter right above the carb as the old elbow fitting with filter was damaged and just have a standard elbow at inlet to carb.

It seems the old filters weren't preventing the rust/sediment from plugging the main jet? Not sure if the filters were adequate to deal with the rust?

Thanks for the warning - will have to watchout for manifold heat on the filter.
