I have a 1951 8n and when I lift a heavy load sometimes , I cannot get it to come down . I must move the quadrant control up and down , most of the time if I move it up almost to the max and then down again it will come down , with a jerk .On regular / light loads in position or constant draft mode it works fine . Any suggestions as always will be greatly appreciated....Thanks...Alan

I also need the answer to this question, I remember reading about it here awhile back but can't remember the cure. This last weekend while bush hog'n, I had the hog go all the way up and stick, it was to the point that the pto shaft started rubbing, I had to disenguage the pto and wait for the hydraulics to bleed down alittle to relieve the pressure on the (What ever is sticking), before it would start working again.

I thought someone said the control valve is the problem and needs to be removed and "Cleaned" up ??, is this the case?, Thanks

later,dave

I have the same thing happening on my 8n that I'm just getting running again. I've had the pump out twice and checked the valves etc. Everything checked out ok, so I cleaned them real good and put them back in with the same results.

What I'm beginning to suspect is the control linkage. When I move the position control down the lever that drives the intake/exhaust valves moves back but not very far - maybe an 1/8 to 1/4 inch. I need to mess around a little more and see if it completely disengages from the intake valve (on the bottom of the ring). If it does then it's the valves somehow - perhaps the spring behind the intake valve is weak. If it doesn't disengage I'm going to pull the lift cover and check for any spots that are worn and may hang up.

One question, does it do this in both constant draft and position control modes? That might help narrow the problem area down.

Later,

Roger.
