Hydraulic control arm questions

I have a 8n that I've removed the lift cover because of some cracks and a broken arm. I looked at the control arm that drives the intake/exhaust valves in the pump and it's got a big curve in it. The part # cast into the side of the arm says 8n524 in raised lettering (not stamped). My books show a good part as 8n504.

Is the 524 a curved version of the control arm? Is it supposed to be curved?

Does anyone know of a place where I could find out what a 8n524 should be? It does not show up in any of my parts manuals.

Thanks,

Roger.

The control arm is supposed to be straight. The control rod has probably been bent by someone taking a short cut to adjusting the lift. Sometimes it will work after a fashion and sometimes it just makes matters worse. The best thing to do is to straighten the control valve rod and then proceed with the proper repair and adjustment procedures.

I have a booklet and a jig that I have compiled and fabricated after the jig that was originally issued to all Ford tractor dealerships as a part of their required tools to hold a franchise.

If you want to know more about it just Email me at wzsherman@aol.com

I just renewed my lift cylinder o rings and found my control arm bowed so much that I couldn't get proper adjustment. On advice from other board members that it should be straight, I straightened mine best I could and put it back. Works fine now. HTH.
