Return of the 8n hydraulic arm question

OK, I'm suffering from further confusion regarding 8n lift cover control arms.

The short version. I have 2 lift covers. I'm trying to make one good one from the two of them.

One everything works except it has 1 broken lift arm and some broken peices on the casting. The other works but the pin that rides the cam in position mode needs replacing. Parts books says the pin is a simple a dowel. I've disasembled the one w/broken arm. I checked for threads and didn't see any. Tried to press out the pin and it wouldn't budge (20 ton press). How much force is required to get the pin out?

I would use the arm entirely except that it is (1) bent and (2) the wrong part number. the bent number is 8N 524 not 8N 504.

I'm going to heat up the arm and see if that relieves enough pressure to get the pin out. Any other ideas or better solutions to my predicament?

Thanks,

Roger.

I can't recall specifics, but for lowdown on the pin, search the archives for 'cam follower pin'. There has been lots of discussions on it. I just replaced mine recently and had so little trouble taking it out that I don't remember how exactly I did it. I suspect simply with a punch and hammer. I don't know the part number, but if the bent rod is the control arm, mine was bent also and I straightened it with a slightly larger hammer. Good luck. HTH/ Steve 8N 1693202

Thanks Steve. I'll take a look in the archives as I have a couple more questions that have probably been covered already.

I did solve the pin issue,,,, minor equipment/setup problem. It was stubborn and whined a bit but finally let go.

Roger.
