Another flat-head question: I recently purchased a gen-set with a Ford flat-head 6 in it. Model# 8MNN*1014. My question is cubic inches, years made (I believe it is a '53)? The problem I'm having is it is drippy. Front and rear seals seem to be slightly dried out. Governor shaft is the same way. What model pick-up truck would I utilize to order parts for this "critter"? I tend to believe it was stored for a few years (decades). It is an old civil defense unit. It is complete and gorgeous and is sweet sounding when running. Thank you for your help.

rg, You probably have a 226 ci engine that was used in many Ford vehicles starting in 1941 with a run through 1952. It was used in everyting from cars, pickups through the F5 or F6, I think. That engine was replaced by the ohv 215 ci 6 cylinder in 1953. That engine was a favorite for off road use; farm trucks, log trucks. Much low speed torque for its time. My old Motors Manual shows it as 3.3" x 4.4" I think Ford put a side distributor on it around 1949. Before that it had the front mount. I still have an engine sitting out here in what is left of a 1950 F4. fwiw. ray
