I have a 9n that I can not get the points to fire.I can take a screw drive and short across the points and get it to fire but if I try to snap them thy wont fire or if I turn it over they will open and close but they will not fire a spark .If it does fire a spark it is real weak.but like I said if I take a screw drive and jump across the contacts on the points it fires real strong,Do I have bad point or is there something that I am over looking.

Try running something like a business card through the points to clean any film of dirt off them. Sounds like the point contacts are dirty. If that doesn't help just install a new set. As a matter of fact why not just replace them and get it over with. HTH

The base side of the points(the piece that you ajust to set the gap}has lost it ground. How can that be when all that metal is around it.I can take a screw drive and get the point to fire aginst the housing.but the only way that I can the points to fire right is to take a screw drive and wedged it aginst the points base and the housing and then it will fire across the contactors.
I have one more thing to say now .This is my first ford (I got it last week} and I will say this .The disturbator out on the front is a pee poor ideal.the boy that I got it off of could not get it to run no more and I see why 3 of the plug wires where cut all most in two. They had been laying on the fan belt.

Did you get a new set of points in it???? If not, that's whay I'd try firstbecause points can go bad even if they look OK. I don't have any experience with a front mount dist but I seem to remember some posts about a "spring at the bottom not making contact" and they had to "stretch it a little" to make good electrical contact. If this sounds familiar to you, good---Otherwise do a repost and try to get a reply from a someone with front mount experience.

be sure to replace the condensor while your in there. this will also cause weak spark condition if it is bad.i do agree with replacing the points if the only thing your are def touching wwith the screwdriver is the points contact area

Sometimes you get no spark because you have a bad ground. Clean all ground straps etc.and see if you get a spark across the points. Take Care, RiK
