OK....here's my problem. I have an 800 series Ford Tractor.....which was running extremely well....until

One day, it wouldn't start. It would only make a small click?? Checked out the starter, crossed across the Selonoid...and nothing.....Took the starter off....had it rebuilt....Guy who rebuilt it said it was full of water?? Put on the starter...no start....crossed across the selonoid and it would crank..... Replaced the selonoid.
Replaced the points and plugs..... wouldn't start....had to replace the little grommet in the distributor that keeps it from grounding..... Ok....started the tractor....now I have spark jumping from the top of the coil to the negative post..... ..Replaced all spark plug wires..... ...runs rough as all get out.....Replaced the coil.....Idles good..... runs ok.....
However, when I start up hills it misses and cuts out like....Hello.....
Thought it might have water in the gas?????
Added premium gas.....let it idle..... and run...it ran good ..... .Tried it again.....continues to cut out when I go up hill....Added some STP gas treatment....
It runs ok with the PTO on and mowing unless I'm going up hill.....up hill is the problem....
Is this bad gas, timing,.....as I said it can handle the PTO and mowing unless going uphill....
Any advice is appreciated. RT

I had a problem like yours with my 800. I turned out that I had lost a little clip spacer under my rotor cap. It would run fine until the govenor would kick in. Good luck. Bill

I have no shed to keep my 800 in, so I cover it with an ugly blue poly tarp. 10' x 10' just fits. 10' x 12' would fit better but then I'd have to figure out which is the 12' side everytime I cover the tractor. Keeps rain out of the starter, gas tank, or any other cavity with less than perfect seal. Someday a shed/garage but not anytime soon. On the front I run a round bungie from the left tie rod to the right wheel, running the metal hook through the wheel slot and anchoring the corner of the tarp. Same with the other side (right tie rod to left wheel). In the rear I run a longer bungie through the gaps in the rear wheels, around the drawbar and through the opposite wheel. Only takes a minute or two to cover or uncover the tractor. The tarp is pulled tight over the tractor forming a tent that I can crawl under without too much difficulty to access the key switch, fuel valve, etc. In the winter I start it first and let it run while I'm uncovering it. The blue tarp idea is not something I'd use on a restored/freshly painted tractor, but it works fine on my old lump.

STP probably appreciates your using their products.
Drain the carb bowl and see if there might be some water in it. Thoroughly clean the gas tank, gas filters and carb. Set the float level to spec.
If all that basic maintenance fails to correct the problem, you might consider investigating the governor and/or spark advance/timing.
