This is my first tractor so I am new to this. I usually deal with 50's and 60's fiberglass boats, but I love this 1943 9N. I traded for this and it ran until I got it home. Come to find out the breather had water in the oil and the carb had water in it at sometime. I rebuilt the carb and it runs good but doesn't seem like it has the power it should have. I can take off in 3rd gear and it just won't seem to pick its self up. There is a lack of power here. I am open to all suggestions on what I should look at next. How are you supposed to set the carb? It idles good and will run good at high rpms but under a load it doesn't seem to have any power. Thanks in advance.

Paul

I'm a rookie on this but FWIW,,,, I was just reading the carb section of my service manual. It talks about the situation you described word for word. If I remember correctly it indicates the power needle (wording?? I don't have the manual right here) should be opened up. I believe it's the larger of the two screws towards the front of the carb and I think it says to open it another 1/8 turn. I think it also talked about the governor being set correctly but I didn't read anything on that yet.

Have fun & good luck,
Roger.
