Of my whole 8N restoration project, the toughest job of all has been the hood. It was in such bad shape, I've been fooling around with it since last winter. Three welding rods, two cans of body putty, and unknown sheets of sandpaper later, I finally got it finished and painted this morning.

At times I thought it would have been easier just to throw it away, build a big block of Bondo, and sand away anything that doesn't look like an 8N hood. Anyway, it's done and it looks good. :-)

Sam,

Nice. Any "before" bondo/sanding/etc. pics?

No, any "before" pictures I have are paper ones. I've only had this digital camera for a couple of weeks, and it seems like I was working on that hood forever.

The hood was so bad that what I have now is mostly a sculpture. I remember re-locating the straight lines that define the raised area on the top of the hood. I had to take measurements from the hood of my other 8N and snap blue chalklines on this hood so I knew where to start grinding. Obviously, I'm kinda glad that's all done - and I'm hoping to forget what Bondo smells like soon.
