Well I guess someones got to dissent and say go for it. I've got a 5' hog, and generally my quite tired and worn 8N sleeps through mowing the fields and grass and such. Just a few hours ago I was hogging down the abandoned garden plow, complete with grass up to the top of the hood. Whackety whack, and it's all cut down and chopped up as nice as you please. I really don't think an extra foot, or two even, would overthrow the N. Interestingly, while I can hog through grass going forward, even in a high gear, I cannot hog grass going backwards. Something about the way it throws the grass around and out of the deck just doesn't work right going backwards. As for steering and weight, you've got two wheel brakes to steer with, use them. Personally, I've never considered the steering wheel of a tractor to be the sole control of directional travel. In fact, quite often, I regard it as the supliment, and the wheel brakes as primary.
