A couple of months ago my 8N started making a whining noise in the clutch housing whenever the clutch got depressed.Lately it has become much worse. All the gears still engage fine and it doesn't affect performance but that noise can't be right. I adjusted the clutch but it made no difference. I'm hesitant to take my 8N out of the garage now for fear of it giving out in the field. Does this mean the clutch is going?

I also think it sounds like a throwout bearing on the way out.You will have to split the girl in two to do it.While you have it apart, you may just as well put in a new cluth and pressure plate also.

my wife whines when she gets depressed too...&she hasn't been out of the garage in years.
but as far as tractors go sounds like might be your throw-out bearing...not much bucks but I imagine you'd still have to split the tractor.
