I have my 8N in the machine shop for work. I was told by the shop that each piston needed a brass bushing on the connecting rod or by the wrist pin rod. I ordered the complete rebuild kit from farm and country. The kit does not come with these bushing. Does anyone know what he is talking about. He was doing the valves, crank turning, and sleeve replacement. Said it is something he does for the oil????
Thanks

Rick I have purchased a kit from them recently and it came with the rod bushings. Check with them and see if they may have been shorted. The other guys and your machinist are correct they are needed, not expensive, and machine shop should be able to get them overnight from their source. When machine shops install them they also check the rods for alignment which also is important.

I contacted Farm and Country, They are checking into the bushings for the piston kit. They said that they do not come with the kit, so if you received them with your order you were lucky. I posted an email with them to include this with their kits, or state that these are needed when ordering a kit. Thanks for all your input.

Yes, he is correct. For a complete overhaul, you would replace the wrist pin bushings as well, you could also purchase rebushed connecting rods although they are expensive. You machine shop will be able to replace the bushings. Happy Motoring

I agree with Claus. By all means, replace the bushings, especially if you are installing new pistons and pins. If you don't it may knock. Any bushing of the right size will work, but a non-Ford bushing will require that the oil hole be drilled out (no big deal).
