Re: Recent dicussion on 450 lbs/feet on axle nut. Here's a link to Harbor Freight socket sets. The second one listed looks like it oughta work. Personally, I think I'd go to Sears and see if I can buy the one socket. Been my experience that Harbor Freight gets good anvils and sledge hammers from China. Everything else may or may not be so hot.

I bought the Harbor Freight 3/4" and 1" socket/ratchet/breaker bar sets when I first got my 8N and quickly discovered that my quality 1/2" socket set wasn't gonna cut it. When I first opened the box, I thought "uh oh, wonder if these will be breaking on first use?" Snap-On they ain't. So far, the tools have done everything I've asked of them with no problems. I figured the cheap looking ratchet would be long gone, but it's still kicking. I wouldn't want to try to make my living with these boys, but for occasional use, they seem to do fine.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed

Russ,

I have the set from harbor freight and it works great. I've used it on the bush hog, axle nut, lug nuts, tow ball for the truck.... In addition to the set I got the breaker bar approx 25" and a adapter for 3/4" to 1/2" (not from harbor freight) and they work great. The alternative is to buy a set from sears or snap-on, but it cost a lot more.

Well, I have both. The socket from Sears was about $20.00. I also have the 3/4" set from Harbor Freight it costs about $44.00 for the whole set. Albeit, it is a little crude but if you do not do this for a living, it will serve your purposes.

I bought a 3/4 drive set from CT 12, years ago, they were made in Korea, sockets to 2" ratchet & breaker bar, $35.00 they have been throuhg plenty and the ratchet is still holding, never split a socket either.
