A snapshot in time: move ahead 45-60 years; "Messing around this cold August night, and moved a cord of cut firewood rounds with the Whimpster and rear scoop, and moved big boulders and dug some test pits with the 1955 Sherman backhoe and 850. It was a good tractor night. Beats the heck out of the old wheelbarrow and shovel. thanks Henry (although your front mount distributor has to go sometime.)" On a sidenote: doesn't this all seem so trivial when there at 118 saliors praying for their lives 350 feet deep in the Barents Ocean in a sunk submarine? -9N'er

Hi Tom, Glad to see you're still home. Hopefully, they won't need you back out west.
You're sure right about those poor people in that sub. What a horrible feeling they must be experiencing. Remember that saying about crying because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet. BTW,
Did you get the Whimpster running again? By the way it looks in the picture, it should run great.
Have a great day and let's remember those sailors in our prayers.
Chuck

yep she's running Chuck. I thought it was something simple, and I kept thinking: "can a distributor cap go bad?" then I took a closer look, and instead of giving the contacts a cursory cleaning, I sanded them with 600 and laquer thinner. Seems like some sort of coating built up on the contacts inside the cap, and prevented the sparkie from jumping through to the plug wires. duh? huh?

Nearly every moment of my day is 'trivial' when compared to the struggles of a million people on that day. We know about those 100 or so people, and agonize for them & their families. What about the rest of the people in the world who are suffering similar, less public trouble?

Ah, I bog myself down thinking like that, and like most humans, I feel for them, realize I can do nothing, and go on with my trivial life.

It seems the British/Netherlands have hooked up to a Soviet sub before, while the USA equipment probably would not fit well. Like most, I wonder about the long delay in asking for the help. I hope there is a sensible answer, and not just blind pride. In the year 2000, we don't need that in this situation.

Yeah, it's a shame the Soviets are so slow to acknowledge the need for help until it may be too late to save those guys. They're going to allow assistance from Britian and the Netherlands but not the United States. Seems like morally they would take help from where they could get it. Heard tonight that it would be Saturday before the equipment gets there. Hope and pray it's not too late.
