I recently rebuilt my 8N and it is running like a top....thanks to some various help from this board.

I would like to put a meter on the tractor to determine how many hours I put on it after the rebuild. I have found a meter at my local NAPA, but it said it was only good for 10-32 volts. Are 6 volt meters available....I have not been able to find one locally.

Thanks in advance.

CHECK WITH AN ATV/MCYCLE SHOP FOR A UNIVERSAL HOUR METER. I FOUND ONE AT A SHOP NEAR ME. IT HAS A TWO WIRE HOOK UP AND DOESNT CARE ABT VOLTAGE, IT HAS ITS OWN POWER SUPP;Y

Most of these meters have a mechanical clockwork mechanism, and just use the DC voltage to keep the balance wheel ticking away. If you can't find a true 6 volt unit, it's probable that a 10V mechanical meter would operate and be accurate on a 6 volt system, which typically operates at something over 6 volts anyway.

I've used hour meters at half their rated voltage with total reliability and accuracy. Especially if NAPA would take it back if it didn't work, I'd give it a try.

One word of caution, though: if it's a Liquid Crystal display or other electronic digital display, it's obviously not a clockwork mechanism, and I have no idea if it would work OK.

Just remember an electric meter will count the
time the key is left on even though the engine
is not running (even after it burns up the
ignition)

See J.C. Whitney, they have one... 4 - 12 volts.
Happy Motoring
