Ford made the model 501 back in the late 50s. I've seen several at big shows with lots of Fords. These are offset, one-row models for cultivating tall crops like Tobacco. In what part of what states might farmers use these? Mike-

Mike there were a fair amount of them here in central FL, but like most tractors of that age they suffered from rust and weather exposure. I have tracked a nice high crop version for a few years, I guess I wore out my welcome as the guy won't even say if he still owns it or not. Good ones are hard to find and tend to be well over priced. I have seen them all over the country but you know they came out at a bad time and never became popular, '58 was a bad recession year and nothing sold well. The following years found bigger tractors to be in demand so 501 series sales suffered and Ford had a tough time selling off those that they already had built.

The offsets were used in eastern NC, for sure. I have seen several. They were a response to the success of the Farmall A and Super A, of which there are beaucoups still around. The 501's never quite caught on, probably because of the hold on the market that Farmall already had since the late 40's. I imagine that the majority of these tractors were sold in areas where tobacco(NC,SC, GA,VA, KY,MS,AL, and truck crops are plentiful, like Florida and New Jersey. I know where there is a 501 sitting rusted up but complete and intact. There was also a 2000 offset for sale a few months back. There may be an offset for sale in the Carolina Ag Review right now.

I've seen more 501s in the Carolinas and Virginia
than anywhere else

Did dealers in Kentucky sell many 501s? If so, what part of the state would those dealers be in? I am disappointed in the smart aleck answer I have gotten to a legitimate question today. M
