There is an 8N on ebay with a Staufer kit and a cobby v8 installation with a June bug air cleaner and a lawn mower gas tank. The guy is calling it a FUNK. My question is: does he know what it is or does he hope a bidder doesn't? My roller was parked at a show next to a Staufer kitted 8N and I could not believe how many people called it a FUNK. Maybe I'm tooo something, but I even get hyper when they call it a restoration and there is only 2 inches of overspray on the tires from the spray can repaint.

Many people consider any alternative engine installation to be a "funk". Just like they call photocopiers Xerox, blow their noses into Kleenex and such. The specific name has become synonomous with the entire category.

As for actual frauds and such on e-bay, they happen all the time, and e-bay encourages it. I have been burned by it. Purchased a complete suspension kit for a truck and only got part of it. In attempting to resolve the matter e-bay has threatened me with criminal action for not liking being ripped off, and any insurance claim is denied me because I posted a negative feedback (any negative feedback blocks all insurance claims). The seller is a known thief, fully supported by e-bay, presumably because he generates profits for them.

If you cannot touch it, see it, and smell it, you are fixing to throw your money down a hole. Bidding in the dark is like playing the stock market or the ponies, if you cannot afford to lose it, don't do it. The purveyors on these "sites" are in the business of making money by selling things for people. They could care less about representation and in general are not qualified to determine what is correct. My two cents worth is that seller, friend or who ever offers an item for sale should be honest about it and if not should be "exposed" as a con artist. I have always considered it an personal responsibility to give a honest representation of what I sell and expect others to do the same.

Finally!
Something I actually may be able to help with :-)

I do not believe that the 'Seller' is aware of the 'deception'. I can almost guarantee that the 'seller' is not the 'owner', and is selling this on 'spec'.

I have been a seller on eBay for about 3 years and have seen a lot of this. The 'seller' is just going on the info provided by the 'owner'.
I checked the 'sellers' feedback and it is impecable. I believe that if they were informed of the 'facts' that they would either pull the auction or revise it to reflect the truth about this 'piece'.

I sincerely believe that this is not an attempt at deception on the part of the 'seller'. This is not their normal 'offering'. They seem to sell more along the lines of books, lamps and such.

I have bought numerous items on Ebay, but I do my homework. I have seen lots of companies auctioning new items, only to go to their web page and you can get it cheaper just ordering. Also, I have emailed sellers questions, and have received lots of responses that they will sell me the item at what ever the closing price is without even entering a bid. Bought a little 110 volt new Hobart Handler 135/MIG welder like that.

RICKWI, is there not a way to notify EBAY about mistaken/false ads being placed? Would seem to me if they want to run a "Class A" they would have some sort of system set up to remove ads such as this and handle complaints. I'm not knowledgable about these auction sites. Just a thought.

I saw it too. Buyer beware and then some! I also noticed a 9N/2N being presented as an 8N. Certainly not as horrible as the "Funk" deal.
