A friend loaned me his 6V/12V battery charger. It seemd dated, but worked well by a simple switch on the charger from 6V to 12V. Are these dual type chargers still available? and or, because I have 6V and a 12V tractors can you'all provide your recommendations to a brand and source that is reasonably priced and works well? thanks in advance. 9n'er p.s Oh, I should mention that the old 9N starts right up and seems to be working just fine lately. Installed a ballast resistor and 12V coil and she is running great. I have a 6V coil (new less than 5 starts) for anyone who is interested.

You can buy from Sears and from the generic tractor supply stores. I have one from each place and the only problem is that neither is automatic. I have never seen a dual voltage consumer model that is automatic. M

Hey 9N'er, I know you've seen those chargers that you can leave on the battery all the time. It turns itself off and back on when needed. Great for the farm, or winter when you don't start it for a while. There is a wire set and plug that stays on the tractor. You just unplug it and go. You can strap the plug to the air filter or something out of the way. Never check the battery again. If it's closed cell that is. So, Your not going back out west? Good, now get started on that house. If you hurry it can be under roof by the first snow. We don't want snow on the plywood all winter long. If you can't close it in, don't even start till spring. Have fun and be safe. Dale in VA.

9N'er.....
A battery charger is one of the most over used tools in a shop....Most are designed to take a dead or low battery and bring them up to a full charge. Unfortunately, people use them for maintenace, when most battery chargers weren't designed for this. I see neighbors frying perfectly good batteries all the time. Just throwing a 10 Amp charger on a Battery for a weekend will do irreversable damage.

Get yourself a 12 volt "Battery Tender". you can leave it on the Battery forever. It has circuitry that will prevent an overcharge. I hear all these people with battery charging problems. If you have a good Battery, and NO charging system on your tractor, and hook it up to a battery Tender everynight, you will have a good fresh battery everyday, that will run your tractor just fine.

I added a nice generator (three brush) that forces me to run with my lights on so the battery doesn't overcharge. I throw it on the Tender everynight I use the tractor to top it off...

If you do get a cheap 2 amp charger, a poor man's storage solution is to plug it into your garage door opener...so it only runs the 10 minutes your garage light is on....

finally as a testimonial toa Battery Tender, I collect antique motorcycles, that rarely get run. Some of the batteries are 8 years old, and still cranking strong..... also, I don't have a nickel invested in Deltran, although I have a 6 V and two 12 V Tenders. The best thing since sliced bread...

Good Luck
Steve

I have a Sears that has 6 or 12 volt, a timer, 150 amp boost for cranking with dead battery. Got it for $110. Has wheels.

Yes they do ,there are some century brand multi function chargers available at our local Quality store. Some have variable charge and auto shut off, which is nice for the forgetfulness in us sometimes. I'm sure there are many other brands w/ similar functions at auto parts stores in ytour area. The nice thing about these is that you don't have to buy multiple chargers for all your different needs.

Farm & Country still carries them. It's the Schumacher's brand. Dual-rate with a 2 amp 12v tickle....I mean trickle feature too. :-)

Try Sears.
'Craftsman' had a whole line of variable chargers.
