I just overhauled my 47 8N. I have no spark at the plugs. I have 6 volts at the switch, 6 volts leaving the switch and 6 volts at the resistor. I have 2.25 volts leaving the resistor and the same at the coil. Does anyone know what the voltage is suppose to be at the coil? I had spark before I tore it down, but can't remember what voltage I had at the coil??? any help would help. I also looked over the history section and couldn't find what I was looking for.

The first thing I would look at is whether the voltage at the coil is changing as you rotate the dist, or crank the starter. If the voltage is staying at 2.25v or so, then the points are not opening and closing, or the wire between the points and coil has shorted, or something serious has happened to the dist shaft to keep the points from operating.

If you get fluctuating voltage at the coil during cranking and no spark out of the coil directly (assuming you can get to the output of the coil to see if it is sparking), then the coil is a gonner.

If you get spark out of the coil directly, but no spark out of the cap, then it's a cap or rotor prob.

Would you believe 3.5 volts?
