I just overhauled my 8N, it runs great, problem is it will not rev. up. It stays at idel until the arm is about 3/4 of the way to full throttle. I can manually move the throttle open and it revs up. If I just use the throttle control arm it starts to rev up and then the governor takes over and slows it down. Any idea on what could be wrong? Per the book, all adjustments are good, spring tight, control rod not bent, etc. Any thing that might help would be good. I printed Don8NAZ's Governor overhaul instructions just in case I have to overhaul it.

Rick, It really only takes a few minutes to pull the governor out and inspect the steel balls and race. Be careful to salvage the gasket and mark the two linkage rods so you get them back on the correct governor lever arms. One retainer machine screw and the entire ball shaft assembly will come of the housing. The only hard part is to avoid cross threading the oil injector tube flared fitting during installation.

You are looking for flat spots on the steel balls and/or wear marks (gouges) on the lower race. Also look (feel) for free travel of the two governor lever arms, no binding.

This is best troubleshot by observation. When you push the throttle forward speeding it up, the throttle rod pushes the inner lever forward. Motion is transferred to the outer lever (shorter of the two) through the spring. Here we need to look at the workings of the two levers and the throttle plate. Do they all move in unison when the throttle is pushed forward. If the spring stretches when the throttle is pushed forward there is a problem with the govenor. In this manner you can observe if the problem is linkage or a govenor problem. Happy Motoring
