Could be the keyswitch, the coil, the condensor. A cheaper multi-tester and test light will help you isolate the problem. I had a problem one time in my wiring harness where the insulation failed and when the wires got hot they shorted out. Took me along time of unwrapping to figure that one out.

Ross..... .Have you checked all 3 fuel line filters including the one in the elbow into the carb? Sounds like you got some gas flow problems. Does the gas flow out the fuel line, or does it piddle?

Generally speaking, condensers are fairly reliable. But if it makes you feel good..... replace it.

One other short term time/heat problem, is gunked up ignition key switch contacts. Next time it dies, bypass the ignition key with a jumper wire, if it starts right up, you'll know what to do..... ....Dell

...yields the floor to the ever-vigilant Dell who has correctly stated that it may indeed be a fuel problem.
