There seems to be smoke coming out from where the exhaust manifold meets the block (near the rearmost spark plug). Also (and I don't know if it's related) I inadvertantly used high test gas recently and have noticed an increase in the amount of oil that leaks.

Can I run the tractor until I can have someone look at it?

It's not too big a job, even for a novice. You should have a book before you start, though. I would suggest taking the manifold to O'Reilly's, Napa, etc. to get the manifold planed, to make sure the exaust, and more importantly the intake parts of it are good'n flat. It's critical to get the intake sealed, as if it's sucking air, you will have a very lean gas/air mix. Translates into burned valves, pistons, and other parts that leave you facing an overhaul. (Expense, time, and what're you gonna do with all the empty Coor's Light cans...) Let us know how you do. Jess(MO)9N202584

Hi octane gasoline will not harm your engine. Try to tighten the manifold nuts. Not overly tight since they are brass. If tightening the manifold nuts do not cure your prolem, you need to remove the manifold. If the cast iron is not eroded on the sealing surface, you can clean it up and get new gaskets and reassemble the manifold. Brass nuts are used to facilitate easier removal. Replace them if they are not usable with brass nuts to help the next guy who removes the manifold. If studs come out, you will need to use some sealant when screwing them back in to prevent coolant loss.

Claus the trouble with reusing the brass nuts is that they inevetably become distorted and will also gauld to the studs and can be a pain to remove. I used to always replace them with new Cadmiem plated nuts and never had any problems with them. I know that this was the standard practice on Ford engines for many years but I think it has been discontinued on all exhaust systems now days.
