Mr. Dell Sir, I have for years, and still teach basic electronics from time to time. Your post got me to thinking (I know thats dangerous) what if we put together a power point presentation ( complete with a little electron animation and all)for the newbees? It is normally much easier for folks to understand a picture (and better yet one that moves). Where could/would one post such an epic? Would it be used / helpful? Let me know your thoughts.

Sounds like something that would be real useful. I bet you could get it added to the list of "Research & Info" topics on this site.

Instead of requiring PowerPoint on everybody's computer it could be done as a series of pages that look just like PowerPoint slides (I think PowerPoint even has "save as HTML").

I'd suggest a bunch of simple topics like:

How does a starter work? (and why polarity doesn't matter)

How does a Delco 10SI work (the 50,000 foot view)

How does an ignition coil work

I just happen to think in pictures and as a newbee, with a non-standard electical setup, I have searched thru the postings and archives, trying to get my arms around the electrical system. Everything appears to be stock except, the generator has been replaced with a 12 volt alternator and the 6 volt battery replaced with a 12 volt battery. In addition, a wire must be clipped into the system, to enable the battery to receive a charge. I will not be able to decipher the system until I make a diagram of HOW it is wired versus HOW it should be wired for my situation.

I duna noe..... ., trying to condense a semistor of Basic Electronics 101 into a 10 - 15 minute powerpoint presentation for N-Tractor newbees and other technically challenged computer drivers could be done.

My basic take is when they won't voluntarily check the "archives" or brouse some of the great links on the sidebar, trying to get them to educate themselves with a powerpoint presentation, let alone not everyone has PowerPoint program on their computer, I think it would be like Don Quixote tilting at windmills.

Actually, if the posters would post all the pertinate information about their problem, it would help a whole lot. I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex-wife..... ...Dell
