Oil pressure

After about an hour of running, my engine's oil pressure drops from 35-30 to 15-10. I know that my carb needs to be rebuilt, and also my govenor. Now the tractor still runs and starts up when its hot. I have not ran a compression test yet. Does this sound like a complete rebuild job in the future? Will I have to split my 1947 2N inhalf if I do rebuild?

Ronnie..... .your oilpressure change with heat is absolutely normal.

Nothing you have said indicates any valid reason for engine overhaul such as low power, hard starting, low compression ratio, oil fogging for misquettoes..... unless you just want to rebuild your tractors engine for "grins". Expect to pay $500 min for parts and then machine shop expenses and all the other expenses will probably end up in the $1500 range. Factory re-mans $1300 - 1500, really not much savings there but if you're a novice mechanic, worth concidering. N-Tractors are relative eazy to work on because they were designed for horse farmers. Of course, when the horse couldn't pull a plow, they lead him out back with a 30-30.

Rebuilding carbs and governors are not indicators of needing engine rebuilt eather..... ...Dell

Ronnie,
The oil pressure you describe is not uncommon with an N. If you are not having other problems, don't worry about it, though a compression test will give you a good indication of general engine condition. Down the road when you do need a rebuild you will have to split the tractor, but it is not that hard. The archives are full of ideas about that. Hope this helps.
