Help, my ammeter stays at zero except when cranking. The pulsates slightly to discharge. Battery keeps running down. All connections are correct at the voltage Reg per Ford f-04.. Please

Mine was doing the same thing yours is doing. I took all of my conections off the generator and starter and cleaned them real good. I also put on a new belt and got it good and tight (1/4 inch play). And mine started to work again. Those things just hang out there for the weather to get at and need cleaning now and again. Hope this helps.

Ok, what is the rest of the story? When was the last time it worked? What was done to it? When my charging system stops working, I do not check the connections to see if they are correctly wired. Do you have gremlins over there that may change wires?

Claus, I have owned the tractor about 2 months. The ammeter never did work. I have been concentrating mostly on the engine miss, but that is another story. Yesterday I took off the regulater to perhaps buy a new one. Decided against that, put it back on checked F-04 to make sure it was connected right and did the polarizing thing. Still no positive amp reading. This tractor was completly rewired by the previous owner. I am wondering if it was rewired co

Ok... The problem is with the charging system and not the ammeter since your battery runs down and it pulsates when you turn the engine over. With the engine running, place a jumper on the field terminal on the generator to ground. Does it charge now? If not, put a jumper from the bat connection of the voltage regulator to the arm or gen connection of the voltage regulator. Does it charge now? If it still does not charge, disconnect all the wires to the generator and remove the fan belt. Connect a 6 volt battery to the armature terminal of the generator and ground. Does the generator motor? If not the gen is probably bad....
