a fellow who deals in heavy equipment around here told me the other day that someone locally is buying up 8N's, especially 52's, tearing'em down, rebuilding and repainting'em , and selling them for as much as $10,000.

forget the stock market guys..... ..... lets invest in N's.

first of all why pay someone to work on an old farm tractor when those of us out here would almost PAY to work on them!!lol but $10,000.oo for any old gasoline tractor is robbery !! but like the man says there's one born every minute!!of course there are those of us who think roger welsh is a genius !=) maybe it's just me ,but part of the fun is fixing them up ourselves and using them. paint imperfections and all!

Yes, but...have you ever thought how much it would cost to completely disassemble the average N, and replace ALL the bad parts in it? Especially if you were paying shop rates of $30 -$55 /hour for labor?
Add in the extra costs to comply with EPA and Workmen's comp, Zoning, Taxes, and so on, and that N doesn't look anywhere near as expensive as it did at first.
Admit it, guys, most of us in the hobby spend far more on our tractors that we will ever monetarily get out of them. Every time I go to an auction and see someone's baby being sold for pennies on the dollar, I cringe. Someday I'll sit down and figure out exactly what a total rebuild will cost. I bet it's more than any of us think.
(All of the above does not make it okay to ask $5000 for a spray can rebuild, however!)

I've found them very nice to deal with. I've bought a bunch of parts from them and asked for technical advice. They really get the parts out in a hurry too. I believe their tractors are probably as good as new if not better.

Hard to believe. Whats special about a 52? Looks like a person could have a standing offer on this board for $4000 and sell for the $10000 with half the work and probably get all the Ns he could handle, when the paint runs for the third time or still cant get that 9N to run.

I figures that $4000 is more than the average N is selling for and you would buy them when the frustration factor exceeds the need of wanting an N.

Also being a given that the average N on this board is in better shape than most in that somebody is always asking how to build a lift or what tires to buy.
