Thank you for all the advice and suggestions. It helped greatly.

Looks like we're going to try it. Words from a fireman type meant a whole lot (not that other non-fireman words weren't worth a lot also). There's no code issues for this I've learned, or at least no permitting issues. I will not use insulation (I really thought I should), mostly for the CO issues you guys raised, that I hadn't thought of. At your suggestion, I will also install a couple of CO alarms. I hadn't thought of that.

I'm not happy about the soot issues with a babies lungs. But, I've also got oil heat, which seems to have a similar track record. Worse comes to worse, we simply won't use the woodstove. I can buy a hepa filter system pretty cheaply for a small room, so that can help. I thank you for the good leads on pursuing this information.

I will be making a fence around the woodstove to keep little hands from wandering into the woodstove and burning themselves. It'll also protect the baby. :-)

So again, many thanks for your help.

PS, the outside building for the woodstove is way beyond my means.

I read your previous thread about chimneys with interest. Be sure your insurance company knows you are using a "solid fuel" heat source. My agent from one of the largest insurance companys was helpful/concern when I installed my wood stove several years ago. I would rather know ahead of time that the installation met their requirement than too late and sorry. Enjoy the heat. I went with the insulated SS pipe through the attic and roof. ray

Thanks for the reminder. Just got off the phone with my agent checking on it and making sure we're ok. It's nice having a good insurance agent, he's saved my bacon on several ocassions over the years.

I'd pick up the pipe tonight and start the installation, but the truck just blew it's exhaust system off. I think I need to fix that first.

Hey Nolan,
Have you considered kickin' back, takin' a deep breath or three and playing with the baby for ten or fifteen minutes? Between safety concerns, "input" processing, fixin' the truck and chasing parts, sounds like you're just havin' too much fun. ; ^ )
